Elevate the human experience through design.
Changing the Industry
Women have been playing catch-up in a wide variety of industries. The architecture, engineering, and construction industry is no different. In 2022, the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics reported that women made up only 26.3% of the AEC industry. However, that number is growing.
Since 2010, we have tracked efforts to increase gender representation not only in the overall makeup of our workforce, but also in the leadership roles held within our organization. Over the past decade, we have substantially increased the number of women across ownership tiers from Associate to Senior Principal, as well as in regional and market sector leadership. As of 2023, females at DLR Group make up:
- 45% of our employee-owners
- 17% of our executive team
- 39% of our Board of Directors and Advisory Board
About Us
DLR Group is an integrated design firm and is 100% employee-owned with all stock held within an employee stock ownership plan, or an ESOP. Employee-ownership has been part of our corporate structure since 1978.
We foster a culture that incentivizes collaboration. Driven by opportunity, we make decisions that impact not only our success but also our clients and partners. All of which are rooted in our core values of commitment, sharing, fun, creativity, environmental stewardship, integrity, ownership, and teamwork.
Everyone Has a Design Voice
This is what we believe and what we practice at DLR Group. “However, as both a woman and person of color, I am also very aware that some voices are still outnumbered by others,” says Senior Associate and Architect Catherine Meng. Through a professional development grant from DLR Group, Catherine started a podcast to act on this beyond our walls. Every year, a handful of employee-owners receive a grant to pursue passion projects, which are critical investments. Read about Catherine’s project and listen to her episodes here.
